2010, Day 212 - Canine camp

I went back out to Estacada this morning to visit my friend Lisa at her kennel and to see my new boy. That's right, I'm going to be back at three greyhounds and I am very excited, but you will have to wait until number three comes home for more information.

Anyway, I had promised Lisa I would take pictures of her place because although they have an inordinate number of greyhounds she boards all breeds. There are small indoor-outdoor runs and larger ones to accommodate bonded pairs (or trios). The facilities are nice, well maintained but rather unexciting. Younger dogs get to spend a good part of the day in the various play areas. Some are relatively small for the dogs that aren't especially active while others encompass acres that include wooded areas. All have fresh water and shade while most have wading pools for the dogs to lounge in. It is really a resort-like atmosphere!

2010, Day 211 - American idol

This even I had the pleasure of attending a seminar on photographic lighting by Joe McNally with two of my friends, Terri and Julie. Not only is Joe an exceptional photographer but he is also the undisputed master of using small lights to great effect. As a photographer Joe is innovative and fun, he doesn't force a particular view but espouses a more trial and error approach and in doing so he reminds us that we learn from our mistakes and sometimes we find genius in errors.

2010, Day 210 - Light of my life

The photographic subject today is brought to you by the letter L and the planet Mercury.

Turn the tables and make a photograph of a light source today. Light bulb, window, or even the sun (be careful!).

I thought a little more metaphorically and present to you Preston Milo Hullinger. In the last eight months my friends J and Garrison lost two of their greyhounds leaving them with just one, Parker. Mr. Parker is a wonderful boy but when you've had a multi-dog household the energy just feels off when one leaves you. Preston is a rather shy boy but I am sure that with his new brother Parker he is going to be a source of light and joy for years to come. In the meantime he has eaten a full meal, enjoyed a couple treats, went potty outside, discovered the comfy beds and shown his prowess at using the stairs. Transition to home life can he a little challenging but this sweet little man is doing really well. I'm so happy for J, Garrison, Parker and Preston!

2010, Day 209 - The Flash

Another Daily Shoot kind of day, my artistic drive needed a kick in the ass to get started. All of tonight's images were made between games of tennis at the park. As a total aside, I'm getting less awful! Anywho, it felt like a high structure black and white moment so that is how I make my presentation this evening.

2010, Day 207 - Think pink!

Today's post is sponsored by the color pink! Actually today's Daily Shoot assignment is:

Today's theme is the color pink. Find something that's pink and make a creative photo.

I went out to Sauvie Island this morning to pick up some produce and these flowers were going in one of the fields. Thanks Kruger's Farm!

2010, Day 206 - Romping with puppies

The adoption group that I volunteer with, Oregon Greyhound Adoption, received some new adoptable dogs this week and our friends at the Springwater Kennel generously allowed us to keep them there until we have space in our own kennel for them. On my way I picked up Jared and Deanna so we could see Becca's new pups that were whelped early Friday morning and so Jared could get some puppy love.

2010, Day 205 - Photo Walkin'

Today was Scott Kelby's Third Annual Photo Walk. In cities all across the world groups of people got together to take picture, compare notes and see how varied our views of the world really are. My friend Terri and her wonderful partner Karen attended the same walk as I did at Oaks Amusement Park in Sellwood. Our walk started at 5:30 this morning so we all had to get up early (although much earlier for them as they live 45 minutes away).

Our glorious leaders were able to get us into the amusement park while the maintenance crew checked all the rides. I wish that we had an overcast morning to make the lights on the rides a little more dramatic but you can't have everything... In exchange for imperfect weather I got great company, awesome leaders and a whole lot of fun.

2010, Day 204 - Deadly

A couple images for today. The first is nightshade, a climbing vine with toxic berries. I stumbled across this specimen at the park on my way to play tennis yesterday and decided to photograph it today. Image number two is from a nice dinner I had with my friends Stacey and Debbie at Ken's Artisan Pizza. We got there early so we didn't have to wait for seating and ordered a couple pizza, one with hot chilies and the other with olives. Both were good but I preferred the one with olives (it also had feta on it and I can't resist a stinky cheese).

2010, Day 203 - Felt balls

Okay, I know, the title is dirty but that's what I like about it! Anywho, my friend Rachel has been bugging me to play tennis (at my request) and today we had a nice cool evening so when she asked I relented. Neither of us is very good but that means that there is just more running around which is really what I needed anyway. Plus we were outside and it was a lot of fun. As we were getting ready to leave so were the guys playing on the next court over and I just liked the way the lights reflected off the court while allowing the homes and garden in the background to remain just that, background.
