2010, Day 182 - Darby and daisies

This is, regrettably, my last update on Darby. Although I saw him less than a week ago he has subsequently lost a lot of strength. This sweet boy has recovered from a broken leg, an amputation a multiple rounds of chemotherapy but his vitality is waning. Now he struggles to get around, his one back leg trembles and life is just getting to be a challenge. His people, J and Garrison, promised that they would do everything possible to help him recover so long as he maintained a sufficient quality of life and unfortunately that is slipping away.

Darby (and his brother Parker) are like my own, it breaks my heart to think that he won't be around but I know that J and Garrison are doing the right thing. With the end nearing all of Darby's favorite people were invited to visit him this evening to say their goodbyes. It was bittersweet, lots of reminiscing and chatting. Everyone brought some sort of treat for Darby, at this point he can have anything he wants so Michelle brought a burger and fries, Dan and Sue brought beef, Mike and Scott brought food for J and Garrison and I brought chocolate ice cream, cheese and hot dogs.

I'm going to miss Darby, the consummate gentleman and I hope that he gets to run in fields of grass and wildflowers with the sun shining down on him. Boo, Falcon and Presley will be waiting for him...

Dignified Darby.
