2014, Day 5 - Frosted

When I got up this morning to walk the dogs everything was covered in a heavy layer of frost.  It was below freezing and the ground crunched underfoot.  It put me in mind of my recent visit to Panther Creek with Nicole and Nicci.  I love the view of the falls from down low and as I moved further downstream I quite liked the visual interest of the fallen trees in the foreground.  The obviously chilly water against the ice encrusted mosses and evergreens provided great contrast, it still looks lush but like the verdant quality of the falls was under attack by winter.

2013, Day 358 - Iconic ice

Even though there have been a number of shots of Multnomah Falls in the winter I am sharing my version.  It was cold and beautiful and there was almost no one there so it rather nice even though my fingers were getting chilled.  There are so many good vantage points but I think I like this view the best of all of them.

2012, Day 17 - Crystaline

It is snowing in Portland!  Even as I type this the snow is coming down and it is sticking to the ground. I love how bright the world is, even at night, when there is snow on the ground.  The dogs love it, Hubert dances around me for blocks attacking the snow.  It was so pretty that I grabbed my camera and went to Laurelhurst Park to take a few pictures.  I am sure that it will still be there in the morning but it will probably melt quickly and I didn't want to miss my opportunity.

Probably my favorite photo from my brief outing is the one below.  I was getting ready to leave and I noticed a Japanese maple lit by a nearby light so I got down low and took a picture of the branches covered in snow.  I like how the reflection off the snow serves to highlight the structure of the tree.

I hope it snows for days and it lasts for weeks!

2011, Day 342 - Crystals

Life through a macro lens looks so different.  When I was at Mount Talbert earlier this week to try to get some picture of the nonexistent fog I was able to get some interesting pictures of the morning frost.  This was my favorite, the large crystals of ice that enveloped the moss growing the the crevice of a large rock.  I liked the way the light hit the ice and how it reflected the lights in a hundred little places that show up as flare.

2011, Day 051 - Shaggy

I was out in the country today through the light flurries of snowfall I saw this shaggy pony standing out in a field. He looked like the epitome of winter in the country and I couldn't help myself from stopping for a moment to take his picture.
