2010, Day 137 - Alberta Arts

The Alberta Arts area of Portland comprises more than one neighborhood and runs from Martin Luther King Jr Blvd to NE 33rd Ave on Alberta St. The target of an extensive revitalization project that has never really been completed there are areas that have been thoroughly gentrified while others have a more strongly working class feel. This dichotomous area is home to hip eateries, funky shops, numerous galleries and some hold-over businesses that gentrification has yet to squeeze out. I always leave with mixed emotions because while it is nice to see the neighborhoods benefiting from the new businesses I can't help but think that many people are now strangers in the neighborhood that they've lived in for decades.
