2010, Day 308 - High key

Today was one of those days, you know, the ones where you have a million things to do and you're running from one to the next with barely time to eat much less to spend quality time with your camera. Fortunately I carry a camera with me at all times and as I was leaving an appointment I saw a row of birch trees. Thanks to the Daily Shoot, I have my photo:

Today, make a photo that emphasizes or even exaggerates brightness in a scene.

This was taken as the sun was beginning to set and the warms of the light translated into the image.

2010, Day 280 - Dross

After yesterday's high of the crazy spider hidden in the flowers I didn't know what subject matter to photograph so I turned to the Daily Shoot for inspiration. Today's assignment was:

Illustrate an aspect of modern culture today. Make a photo that communicates the feeling of abandoned or discarded.

Plus my inner perv thinks the name of this used firework is funny... Golden shower... Hehehe...

2010, Day 260 - Leaves

I put my own spin on today's Daily Shoot assignment.

Showcase the beauty of living foliage! Make a photo of a single leaf or an entire "greenscape" today.

So I fully intended to shoot leaves today but it was one of those days where it rained but only when I went outside, otherwise it was dry. On my way back from a meeting I was driving down Stark and I saw Portland Nursery coming up so I pulled over and decided that because they sell plants I might find a leaf or two worth of photographing there. Unfortunately that's when the assignment kind of went out the window because as my regular readers know full well I like nothing more than flowers and bugs and I found both!

2010, Day 253 - Horizontal mambo

Back to the Daily Shoot! Today's assignment was:

Find a strong series of horizontal lines or elements and make a photograph of it today.

These are the things I found on my wanderings.

2010, Day 244 - Tetanus

Today was another Daily Shoot kind of a day. Our assignment was:

Make a monochrome photograph today. Either use a single color subject/background or make it monochrome in post.

While I was out an interesting property that was getting professionally inspected prior to listing I found this great gate that reminded me of my friend Terri who loves rusting metal. It fit the assignment to begin with but I love the aged look and the emphasis on texture when converted into black and white.

Johan came with me, it was a nice adventure for him and he quickly found a comfy place to relax and observe.

2010, Day 243 - Rain drops keep falling

Our late start to summer seems to have abandoned us to autumnal weather already with highs in the low sixties and rain. Fortunately I like the rain, the smell of the earth as it drinks in the moisture, the way it washes clean the streets and makes the air taste just a little bit sweeter.

Today's Daily Shoot assignment was:

Illustrate your local weather today with a photo. Rain or shine. Cloudy or clear. Communicate what it's like to the world.

2010, Day 232 - Shallow

Despite an aimless and relaxing sort of day to get Johan further acclimated to home life (he's doing exceptionally well) I found myself looking to the Dailyshoot for inspiration. Today's assignment is:

Make a photograph with a shallow depth of field today. Get in close if you need to force it with the lens you have.

The lens I had today was a wide angle zoom but I think it went rather well...

2010, Day 228 - Starburst of white

Today's Daily Shoot assignment was:

Make a photograph of a plant today. It can be a small one in a pot, a big one in the park, or a tree in a forest.

There is something that I really like about succulents. They have these overdeveloped bodies of foliage but often their flowers as extremely delicate. I think maybe it is the juxtaposition of the rather clunky plant with the refined flowers.

2010, Day 207 - Think pink!

Today's post is sponsored by the color pink! Actually today's Daily Shoot assignment is:

Today's theme is the color pink. Find something that's pink and make a creative photo.

I went out to Sauvie Island this morning to pick up some produce and these flowers were going in one of the fields. Thanks Kruger's Farm!

2010, Day 200 - Know when to fold

Today was a busy day with little time for my own creativity so I took the advice of my friend Terri and used the prompt from The Daily Shoot. Today's assignment was:

Ads promote removing wrinkles, but they often add character. Make a photo of something wrinkled, crinkled, or folded.

So I stopped at a news stand an took this picture of a stack of newspapers. I like the color, the contrast and the richness and thus I had today's photo!
