2013, Day 156 - Peanut butter

It has been another busy day in what has proven to be a busy week.  I love the activity but sometimes I just want to drift lazily like a jellyfish in a world where I shine bright like in a dream.  Maybe I just need more sleep, that sounds like such a good idea right now...

2013, Day 135 - Tracks

This is a macro image of the edge of a jellyfish.  I like what I can only describe as veins as I suspect they must transmit some like of fluid.  It is interesting and rather abstract, especially with the magenta light used to illuminate the tank.

2013, Day 91 - In the void

Jellyfish have a hypnotic effect.  They move so effortlessly through the water like dancing mushrooms. It is peaceful and their gentle movements are mesmerizing.  As a photographic subject they have color and a variety of textures making them a visual feast.

2013, Day 87 - Solitude

Another jellyfish from the Portland Aquarium.  While all the other jellyfish were grouped together this one seemed to like to be out of the crowd.  Maybe it is the black sheep of the group.  Either way I appreciated its independence because it allowed me to get this picture...

2013, Day 82 - Must be jam

Everyone loves a good photograph of jellyfish.  I am not sure why this is, maybe it is because they look like ethereal flying mushrooms or that their undulating acrobatics are hypnotic but they are always fun.

I had the pleasure of going to the Portland Aquarium, a small private facility that is actually in Milwaukie.  Honestly, it isn't great, they have it set up with a lot of touch pools which is great for kids but not for the animals.  It is small but most of it looks well maintained and only a few animals showed signs of stress.  Still, it wouldn't be high on my list of things to do again but I went with two three year-olds and their parents plus my mom who is in town for the weekend.  The excitement of children helps to bolster a somewhat lackluster experience.

2011, Day 058 - Space squid

Playing with more old images in Photoshop, this was one dug up from almost three years ago when I went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I really like the painted effect...
