This morning I dropped my car off for a little attention at the shop and when I walked back to pick it up this afternoon the Buckman Farmers' Market was being set up. Unfortunately I didn't have the means to carry any purchases and a long walk ahead of me but I did wander through and take some pictures. These golden raspberries caught my eye; I liked the color and the contrast and the perceived abundance that goes hand-in-hand with berry season.

2011, Day 218 - Tasty
It's Saturday and it's summer so that means BBQ! I went out this morning with my buddy Stacey to get stuff for the grilled fish tacos we were planning to make this afternoon. We got fresh tortillas, sole caught this morning, organic cilantro, tomatoes, cucumbers and more at the Hollywood Farmer's Market.
As I was getting ready to leave this morning I had my Canon 24-70/f2.8L on my camera and decided to switch it out for my Canon 24/f1.4L Mark II. I love that lens but I feel like it gets underused in my day-to-day life. Walking around with a prime is a different experience but you quickly remember how to work around the lack of zoom and the minimum focusing distance is quite close so you can compensate by getting closer and embracing the distortion that comes when objects are near the camera at this wide focal length. I had a lot of fun, maybe tomorrow I will post a couple one of the wide angle flower shots I took...

2010, Day 140 - Local food
Now that the weather is trying to improve there are farmers markets popping up all over town. In fact I think that there is only one or two days a week that you can't find a farmers market which makes it exceptionally easy to eat locally grown food. Today was the Buckman Farmers Market which is only ten blocks from my house. It is a relatively small market but well attended and it still have the requisite live music, fresh produce, locally raised meats, neighborhood bakeries and confectioners, and plants. I was able to purchase a nice bowl of soup for dinner, yellow lentils and rice from Zuppa.

2010, Day 136 - Farm fresh
Yesterday the weather was beautiful, it was sunny and warm (but not too warm) and just about perfect. This morning it was overcast and raining, basically, it was Portland again. But the people in the Pacific NW are used to a little wet weather and today was the start of the season at the Milwaukie Farmers Market. There was a lot of fresh produce, meat from small sustainable farms, Oregon shellfish, wild mushrooms, local ice cream, and tons of plants and flowers. Add to that a scattering of musicians and it make for a pleasant morning and while it is a relatively small farmers market there is something for everyone. I came home with some very nice and extremely fresh goat cheese infused with peppers and garlic.
