More trillium! Fortunately these guys are a little more hardy when it comes to wet weather so they're enduring the driving rain a lot better than many of the other flowering plants. These two have been kissed by rain and look as happy as can be!

2014, Day 77 - Nibbled
It is exciting when you see the first trillium of the season. They're beautiful delicate flowers and are icons of the region so I was thrilled to stumble upon a few wild plants blooming in the woods today. Even with its petal munched on it is still beautiful.

2012, Day 88 - Icon
Some things evoke the Pacific Northwest like rainy days, new age hippies, Subarus, local food, and this little gem, trillium. They are deceptively delicate, you would think that their less refined form would indicate a certain level of hardiness but pick a flower and you could quite possibly kill the plant. Those that survive may take multiple seasons to recover. There is nothing quite like a hike through maples and evergreens, the sweet smell of pine and decaying leaves hidden under a carpet of ferns dotted with the bright white of the trilliums.

2010, Day 85 - Cannon Trail
I'm rediscovering the joy of thinking big so I broke out a nice wide angle lens and took a little hike in Forest Park. When I arrived there were only scattered clouds but in short order the clouds moved in and it started to rain. I stuck it out for a little bit but retreated quickly before the trailed turned completely to mud.

2010, Day 84 - Rosemont Bluff Natural Area
Today I went on to the City of Portland's Parks website and chose one at random on a map. When I arrived from the south the park was almost inaccessible so I went around to the north side and discovered trillium!
