I like this picture not because it is technically great but because of the moment it captures. This lionfish is stretching out its mouthparts, something that you would normally only see when they are feeding as it swallows its prey whole. Lionfish are voracious predators and their poisonous rays are very effective defense mechanisms. Only a small number of fish pose a threat to the lionfish and even they prefer other targets when they can find them.
